After years of speculation, star Hermitage linebacker Curtis Grant has made his decision on which of the more than 25 offers from schools around the country he will accept. His decision is to become an Ohio State Buckeye; joining one of the most storied and successful programs in the country.
Grant’s dynamic ability at the linebacker position made him one of the premier recruits in the nation, with ESPN ranking him as the 46th best recruit in this year’s class among all positions. Among inside linebackers, he’s rated the third best in the nation.
The Times Dispatch reports that the tight-knit bond amongst the Ohio State team appealed to him, and reminded him of his Hermitage team. “(The coaching staff) just wanted to get to know me more as a person, then we could talk about football as the time came around,” Grant said.
The other schools Grant was deciding between included Virginia, North Carolina, and the University of Florida. The Times also notes that Grant is the first local player to attend Ohio State since Trever Robinson, a 2003 Huguenot graduate who walked on with the Buckeyes.
Are you a tweeter? Odds are you’ve spent at least a little time on Twitter, and you know just about everyone has an account – people and organizations alike. We certainly do! Colleges are no exception, and many have individual accounts for their athletics and even for each team.
With baseball season kicking off, we thought we’d take a look around the Twitterverse and see who of the Virginia D1 schools have a Twitter account specifically for their baseball team. Turns out there’s a pretty good showing! Virginia Tech and VMI are conspicuous absences…maybe this is their year to get on the Twitter train.

Lead by the strong play of four Cadets, Benedictine emerged the winner of a close game with Highland Springs. The final score of 71-66 means that Highland Springs, the #1 rank in the most recent Times Dispatch Top 10, will cede the top spot to the #2 ranked Benedictine.
Trey David, Mike Gbinije, Erik Moody, and Jordan Burgess gave the packed Memorial Gym plenty to cheer about as they scored 19, 17, 16, and 11 points respectively. Javaris Threatt of the Springers had the night’s highest individual point total, scoring 22 points.
Benedictine coach Sean McAloon said of his team, “We had a boatload of offensive rebounds. We took advantage of our size.” Springers coach George Lancaster mirrored the sentiment, saying, “There was too much of them and not enough of us.”
